Offline images are those being tracked by Aperture that the application can no longer locate. This occurs when externally referenced files go missing or, more seriously, when managed files disappear from their storage locations.
The key consequence is that offline images cannot be exported through Aperture Exporter.
To identify offline images in Aperture, you can create smart albums. Pay attention to the "All" dropdown and source settings. Three types of offline images can be detected:
- All images that Aperture cannot find but is aware of
- Offline referenced images specifically
- Offline managed images
